I recently wrote a post about the famous Russian painting 'Cossacks Wrtiting a Letter to the Turkish Sultan' - and saw that there was a dog in the picture, who I hadn't noticed before.
What is this dog? What's it doing in the picture? He looks very angry and more like a wolf, than a dog. While there is a lot to be said about cossacks and horses, there is very little about their relationship with dogs.
Maybe cossacks did ride with dogs running by their side, maybe they did have companion dogs?
